This whole "right to exist" is getting cumbersome.
Additionally, it has always struck me as to why aren't the conditions equal - why doesn't the United States urge Israel to recognize the right of the palestinians to exist - the right for a palestinian state, and the right of return as granted by international law.
We know the reasons - but these questions are never addressed publicly.
because we are the 'good guys'... it's a failure of our education system if no one told you so in 4th grade social studies. That's why we can have nuculer weapons and no one else can... cause we're trustworthy. I bet you don't even wear a flag lapel pin!
It's funny - I never realized the absurd sort of nationalist patriotism into which I was brainwashed in the US until I moved to Canada - a country which I honestly thought was equivalent to the Arctic. It's sick - but homogenization of a national entity at it's best! : D
Man, these guys need to learn how to play the game. All they need to say is "We recognize any government that is elected democratically by all the people living in the land" and BAM $900 million dollars.
Amy Goodman was more eloquent in the program: "the Obama administration will halt payment unless the new government also renounces violence. No such conditions have been imposed on Israel. The Israeli government refuses to renounce violence, and has never recognized the right of Palestine to exist. Palestinians have also criticized the demand that they recognize Israel's right to exist, because it forces them to go beyond recognizing Israel within secure boarders but in fact affirms the legitimacy of their dispossession and ongoing occupation."
